Crystal and Roberto H from Tochigi Ken, Japan
Crystal and Roberto and their five children are the first family Ezra has helped from Japan. They were helped through our team in Argentina. Crystal tells their story here:
My name is Ariely, but I go by the name Crystal. I am going to tell you a bit about my long story of how we finally made Aliyah from Japan! I am actually an Israeli citizen and left Israel approximately 16 years ago. I did not leave with the idea of going away permanently; I simply traveled to Peru to visit and to take care of some matters that required my attention at that time. But upon arriving in Peru, absolutely everything I had was stolen from me. Really, it was my own negligence for not having taken the necessary precautions when arriving in an unfamiliar country.
I remember that at that time, my mother offered me to go to Japan to spend some time with her. That way, we could continue building our relationship and get to know each other better. During that time, I met the man who became my husband, Roberto and he is from Brazil.
For many years I tried to return to Israel, but many things happened that prevented me from fulfilling that dream. Over time, we started a family and I had five children, all of them with Israeli nationality. We were very grateful for the blessing of having a family, but we also realized that there was a lot of racism in Japan. This became even more evident when our children began attending school, where it was very difficult for them to study peacefully.
I especially remember that my youngest daughter suffered very severe abuse, and justice was never served for it. We asked for help, but no one helped us return to Israel. It was an extremely difficult time for us. We lived under constant stress from having to go to the immigration office to renew our visas. Every time we tried to save money in order to return to Israel, it was almost impossible due to low wages. In addition, almost no jobs in Japan would accept women with children, so my husband was the only one working.
One day, my father’s brother came to visit us and saw that our situation was not good. I had the opportunity to speak with him and asked him for a loan for the tickets for us to be able to return to Israel.
I wanted to return to Israel because I loved Israel, it was always in our hearts; I always believed it was the best place to raise my children, because I felt at home, because I wanted them to have quality of life, education, and values, and so that they would not suffer mistreatment anymore. We had also experienced discrimination in many ways, to the point of feeling very unsafe at times.
My husband wanted to embrace the opportunity to live and begin a new life in Israel, full of hope. I could say many more things, but it would be very long to explain everything in detail. However, one of the things I wanted to add is that my eldest daughter, who is 13 years old, has a heart condition and needed check-ups every six months or sometimes once a year. Another of my daughters is asthmatic and has allergies that required regular monitoring. So we wanted to return home, to have quality of life, and above all, peace.
I really want to give my deepest thanks to Ezra and also to Guillermo for informing me step by step, for being there for us, and for so much help that made me feel much calmer throughout this entire Aliyah process. I could express a thousand things right now, but what I most wanted is to show my gratitude and wish all the blessing of Hashem for such wonderful work Ezra is doing.
Thank you very much Ezra!
